Pro Secrets: JxTol Reveals the Inside Story of the MagicCraft Tournament on Ultra Arena
From August to October, Ultra Arena hosted a major event: the MagicCraft Tournament! For the occasion, Ultra Times assembled a team of passionate players who put in a great performance to advance through the Pro League and make it all the way to the playoffs. We had the opportunity to sit down with their leader, JxTol, to discuss their journey and experiences during the tournament.
Thibaut : Hi JxTol, I’m thrilled to have you here for an interview! To start, could you briefly introduce yourself and your team to the community for those who haven’t read our previous article?
JxTol : We're from the Philippines and have been playing Magiccraft for a year. My son, my daughter, and I love the game and always team up for every tournament.
Thibaut : That's great! Could you tell us about your first experience with MagicCraft? What drew you to the game, and how did you get so invested in it with your family?
JxTol : MagicCraft first caught my attention with its blend of fantasy and strategy, and the way it felt like a fresh twist on classic RPG elements. I was intrigued by the character roles and how much depth each one had, especially since I play as a Ronin in other games. It wasn’t long before I realized it would be something my family could get into as well—we all have different play styles, so the variety in character options kept us all hooked.
Playing together brought a new level of excitement; strategizing as a team added a real-life bonding experience to our sessions. We’d often spend hours discussing tactics, laughing at our mistakes, and celebrating our wins. It became a way for us to connect, unwind, and make memories.
Thibaut : It's very interesting to see that playing as a family has brought you so much closer together, and you've even started to answer my next question! 👀
Playing as a family, what does that bring to your team dynamics? Does it make competitions more exciting, or sometimes more challenging?
It is more of a question on the strategy side! 😉
JxTol : Got it! On the strategy side, playing with family means we can lean into each other’s strengths. For instance, each of us naturally gravitates toward certain roles or character types, so we build our team around that. Knowing who’s best at offensive strikes, defense, or support lets us craft a balanced lineup that covers all bases.
We also communicate faster and more intuitively. Because we know each other so well, we can pull off coordinated attacks or defenses with minimal explanation, which can give us a real edge in fast-paced battles. And when things get tough, we know how to adjust quickly, whether it means switching roles mid-game or coming up with a quick plan to counter a surprise move from opponents.
But there's always the challenge of not slipping into too much predictability—since we’re familiar with each other’s styles, we have to keep evolving our strategies to stay unpredictable and keep things exciting!
Thibaut : Great! We can clearly see the benefits of playing as a family, but also the importance of not being too predictable. Could you describe a memorable moment in your competitive journey? A particular match or victory that really stood out to you?
JxTol : One unforgettable moment was our victory at the OGC tournament, where we went up against the veteran all-time champions of MagicCraft.
Thibaut : Congratulations for this one! 😉 Could you tell us more about how the tournament went, your family’s preparation, and how you celebrated the victory?
JxTol : Thank you! That tournament was an intense experience from start to finish. Knowing we were up against the all-time champions definitely raised the stakes, so we really focused on preparing as a team. We studied the champions’ past matches, looking for any patterns or strategies they tended to use. Each of us put in extra hours perfecting our roles and practicing new tactics so we could adapt on the fly. We even worked on our communication, setting up signals and code words to stay as coordinated as possible.
When we finally faced them, the match was nerve-wracking. The champions were incredibly skilled and threw some unexpected moves our way. But staying unpredictable helped us keep up, and our bond as a family team gave us an edge in those split-second decisions. When we finally pulled off the win, the adrenaline rush was unreal!
Afterward, we celebrated big-time. We went out for dinner and spent the whole evening recounting the highlights, reliving every moment. It felt amazing to celebrate not only a victory but also the teamwork that got us there. That win will definitely be a family memory we’ll cherish forever.
Thibaut : It's wonderful to see the cohesion you've shown during this tournament! The Arena League is known for its intensity. What do you think makes this competition unique, and how does your team adapt to such high-level opponents?
JxTol : The competition is distinct due to its Engaging Competitive Structure: Teams will compete in 3v3 matches across multiple events, such as the Amateur League, Pro League, and playoffs, fostering a vibrant and competitive atmosphere that highlights collaboration and strategic play. Additionally, the Enticing Prize Pool: With a total of $3,000 in cash and digital assets like $UOS and $MCRT, there is a compelling incentive for teams to participate. This not only drives motivation among competitors but also elevates the overall thrill of the league.
Clear and effective communication is vital, especially in high-pressure situations. We emphasize calling out plays, sharing observations during matches, and maintaining an open dialogue to ensure everyone is on the same page.
Thibaut : Thank you very much for your feedback, it's very interesting. We know that Ultra is trying to build something really good with Ultra Arena and the Arena League. We're hoping to see more and more rewards for players to encourage even more people to take part. What's next for you? I saw that MagicCraft is organizing the MagicCraft World Championship on November 23 and 24. Are you planning to participate?
JxTol : I'm glad you found the feedback helpful! It’s exciting to see how Ultra is evolving the esports landscape, and I share your hope for more rewards to engage players even further. As for the MagicCraft World Championship on November 23 and 24, we are indeed considering participation! It's a great opportunity to showcase our skills on a larger stage and compete against some of the best teams in the community. We're currently evaluating our roster and preparing strategies to ensure we're ready for the competition. I’m looking forward to it!
Thibaut : Sounds very exciting! Thank you so much for this interview, JxTol. We’ll keep following you closely during the next competition, and we hope you go far!
JxTol : Thank you! I really appreciate your support and interest in our journey. I’m looking forward to the upcoming competition, and hopefully, we can make a strong showing. Stay tuned for updates, and I hope to share some great moments with you during the event!
